About Me
Who Am I
My name is Fergus Nelson, I am a 24-year old based in Edinburgh. I attended an international school in India from the ages of 8 to 18. Upon returning to Edinburgh I studied Music Business at Edinburgh College. I am trained in the music business and have worked in music marketing for 4 years. I started my own marketing company in my second year of college to build experience and develop my business and marketing skills. After college, I had an internship at GR Management in Glasgow, who represent Texas and Primal Scream. After a few years of working in the music industry, I realised my passion shifted to the gaming and content creation industry. For as long as I can remember video games have been at the centre of my world, and I want nothing more than to continue that and carry it into a professional setting. One of my earliest and dearest memories is of my older brother and I playing Lord of The Rings on the PS2. From there gaming evolved into a life long passion and comfort. I am someone who is passionate about my work and am looking for a place where I can grow and develop my skills while working in an industry I care about.
How I Got Here
Recently I’ve decided to switch career paths and pursue a career in the gaming/content creation industry. The reason being that during the 2020/21 lockdown I developed a strong draw to streaming and content creation culture. All of a sudden it clicked with me that while I’m trained to work in the music business, I can put the skills I developed studying and working in music towards a career in the gaming sector.

It was only when streaming started becoming more mainstream that I realised there is a much bigger business here. When I pieced that together and started researching it more, the streaming business started to look really similar to the parts of the music industry I was trying to work in. For a while, I was conflicted. I thought ‘Should I really abandon looking for work in the business I had been training myself to be a part of for 4 years, and start from scratch in an industry that I know less about?’. The answer was obvious, but not initially. Of course it was the right move, but because lockdown had delayed my post-college job hunt by 18 months I knew I had to be certain with this move. The answer came as soon as I started writing my first streamer analysis. As soon as I started putting my thoughts, observations, and research down on paper I felt a rush I hadn’t felt in a long time. From that point, the decision had been made for me. I had to keep doing this and pursue a career that would allow me to continue this type of work and more.
Where I want to go
My goal is to get an internship or entry-level job at a company that works closely with streamers and content creators, either on the brand or creator side. Specifically, I want to work on campaigns. I often have great ideas for ways streamers can partner with brands to deliver entertaining and engaging content that will benefit both the creators and the brands they are representing. I believe the future of streaming will include a lot of big events that include multiple high profile creators, IRL streams, and interactive streams where viewers have more of an influence on the overall dynamic and outcome of the event. I believe I can contribute a lot to this industry, and I’m excited to soon be doing what I’m passionate about.
