The Gritty Kings

Overview

Overall the campaign for JEM was successful given the short time frame to gain coverage (3 weeks). We were able to get a great review on Spotlight and an interview with Keira Brown at The Fountain. These both came shortly after the release which was great to keep the momentum going for the track so that followers had more to tune in to after the release. Ideally, I would’ve prefered to achieved more playlist submissions and been featured on BBC Introducing, but for next time that will just get extra attention on my part.

The band, management and I worked very well together, providing everyone with everything they needed. This was fundamental to the success of the campaign, as without clear and timely communication campaigns like this can fall apart and gain no traction. So I was thrilled working with these guys as the whole process ran as smoothly as hoped.

For future campaigns with the band ideally, I would like to be given about 6 to 8 weeks to work on the campaign prior to the release date. I would also advise a sit down where the band, management and myself discuss a full marketing campaign outside of just PR. Some options would be having a release event that could get featured in The List, a full plan for use of social media marketing with pre-arranged and timed posts, and pre-made media tools such as the live session music video + interview with Discovery. If we were to do the music video and interview we would be able to chop it up and use clips as marketing tools in the run-up to the release which is much more engaging and could draw a significant amount more attention. Ideas like this can be discussed closer to the next campaign but would generally be more feasible and beneficial for an EP or album release rather than just a single release.
